Of course roses! It is a rose haven. This public garden is open daily 8am to one half hour after sunset and free. It is located in San Jose Rose Garden heighborhood at the corner of Naglee and Dana Avenues. People come there to have a picnic, read a book, meditate, look at roses and take pictures. It is at it’s best in April and May.

The garden features 189 rose varieties, most are modern garden roses: Hybrid Tea, Floribunda, Grandiflora, Miniature, Polyantha.

Hybrid Tea – is the oldest group of morden garden roses, created by cross breading hybrid perpetuals and tea roses. The shrubs can grow from 2 to 5 feet in height. These roses are great cut flowers and most are fragrant.

Floribunda – is another group of modern garden roses. It is a cross of hybrid tea rose with polyantha roses. The flowers are smaller then hybrid tea roses, but are in large sprays, which give averall fuller flower display. Look at this snowy magic – floribunda ‘Iceberg’

Grandoflora – is a cross between hybrid teas and floribunda roses. They can grow 3-5 feet and on a single stem have 5-7 blooms.

Miniature – repeat flowering shrubs, growing range from 6″ to 36″.

Polyantha – shorter shrubs, some are compact, others are spreading, climbing. The blooms are small, typically 1″ and carried in large sprays.These roses are prolofic bloomers from spring to fall and desease resistant.
